The foreign ministry says the international community is paying close attention to Taiwan’s presidential and legislative election, scheduled for Saturday.

On Friday, foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said that 235 journalists from 113 foreign media outlets are in Taiwan to cover the contest.

Meanwhile, Ou said that 100 scholars from the United States and Denmark have also come to Taiwan to observe the election.  Among their number are researchers from the American Enterprise Institute and the Hudson Institute, both based in Washington.

In addition, A-WEB, the Association of World Election Bodies, has also sent a delegation to Taiwan. Taiwan is a founding member of the association, which was established in Incheon, South Korea in 2013.
